Sudden illness or fever: big chunks of hair sometimes fall out after an illness or fever. However, this only lasts for a little time.

Childbirth, menopause, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and aging could also be the other reasons for hair loss. There are other reasons for hair loss over and above these main ones.

1. One way is to include vitamins A, B, C and E in your diet. This promotes hair growth. There are several ways these vitamins work to promote hair growth: they provide sebum and promote blood circulation to the scalp by increasing oxygen absorption and collagen.

2. Caring for your scalp: If you regularly massage your scalp with herbal oils like olive oil, jojoba oil, amla oil you would be greatly benefited. If you want to treat conditions of alopecia areata, try some essential oils like that of thyme, rosemary, lavender and cedar wood.

3. Avoid scalp abuse: Stop daily use of harmful chemical shampoos and blow drying. Chemical processes like coloring as well as straightening can damage your hair and scalp. Your hair and scalp can get damaged as hair turns brittle and dry when you wash it with hot water daily.

5. Lifestyle changes: This involves doing some stress management by doing exercises and meditation, as stress causes hair loss. Quit smoking; the nicotine in cigarettes constricts blood vessels and decreases blood flow to the scalp. To avoid sunburn and damage to the scalp caused by UV rays, avoid sun exposure.
